Remembering Helen

It is with sadness that we let you know that Helen Tjong passed away last month – unexpectedly.  Helen had been a member of GFG since 2004, and she loved her golf.  On November 22nd, 2008, Helen flew from Vancouver to Maui to attend the first ever – Maui Women’s Classic at The Dunes at Maui Lani.  Helen was in the first group, and when it poured rain – others were waiting for the tournament to be called off, BUT – rain or shine, Helen was finishing her round – so did we all with lots of fun stories to tell.  Helen was a great supporter of GFG events – attending tournaments, Crown Isle and Whistler Getaways, and we will miss her very much.

She renewed her membership on March 2nd, so her renewal fees (approximately $200) will be donated to the Heart & Stroke Foundation.  We are told, her husband passed away in 2003 of a stroke, so this donation will be in honour of Helen.  We are not aware of any other charity that Helen would want us to support.

Most of you who golfed with Helen will know that UGC was her favourite course, and the kick up event was often the first time she would re-unite with her GFG golf buddies.  We will miss her this year, but will be doing a draw at the kick up on April 21st and the winner will receive a free round of golf at UGC – to remember Helen.  We thought Helen’s GFG buddies would want to know about her passing.
